A Montessori Approach to Peace
Connecting the Two Poles of Humanity
When I taught at Seisen International School in Tokyo, Japan, I had the opportunity to speak at a TEDx event. I shared my hope for humanity’s evolution via a transformation of education and society inspired by Maria Montessori’s life work. It is not a talk about the Montessori method, but of Montessorian philosophy. How can we make our world a more peaceful place by prioritizing children’s wellbeing in society?
There are many ways in which society must do better for children in the United States and abroad. While education is incredibly important, we must too assure that children are granted their basic human rights, including access to shelter, clean water, food, and safety. Please consider donating to one of the following organizations fighting back against man-made famine in our world today:
“He who is the constructor of man can never be a person of no importance. He is capable of doing something great, like a seed. It is only when we realize the wonderful way in which the child creates the man that we realize, at the same time, that we hold in our hands a secret by which we can help the formation of a better humanity.”- Maria Montessori (1870-1952)
