Positive Discipline for Parents & Caregivers

Quick Summary

This course is designed to give parents and caregivers effective tools to handle and prevent behavioral challenges in the home, while encouraging children to develop positive social and life skills.

What is Positive Discipline?

Positive Discipline is a research-based model of living and behavioral response based on the work of philosopher and psychiatrist Alfred Adler. Dr. Jane Nelsen, along with educator Lynn Lott, adapted his work to create guide books, tools, and other resources to help people live in more respectful, responsible, and loving communities with one another. This live experiential course focuses on the relationship between children and parents, or other primary caregivers.

The aim of this course is to help people find “a sense of belonging and significance” (PDA), with activities and tools that:

  • Establish a sense of connection

  • Are mutually respectful and encouraging

  • Have been proven effective long-term

  • Teach important social & life skills

  • Invite children to discover how capable they are

What you’ll have by the end of the course:

  • A variety of tools to handle and prevent behavioral challenges in your home

  • A greater understanding of the child’s mind

  • Knowledge about the psychology behind Positive Discipline

  • Confidence in your parenting, knowing you can be “kind and firm” while you encourage your child’s social skills and life capabilities

  • A growth mindset for yourself and your family

  • Connections with other parents and caregivers doing their best, just like you
